Open Position


Position Summary:  Responsible for cleaning of public and non-public areas; and basic building and grounds maintenance. This position requires high attention to detail and requires some flexibility, to include evenings and weekends


Principal Responsibilities: 

Cleans interior of building including but not limited to:

-Emptying and cleaning waste cans

-Cleans desks and computer stations in the public area

-Vacuums carpets & mops hard surfaces

-Removes marks/graffiti from all surfaces

-Dust baseboards, window sill, bookcases, TV screens, file cabinets, ledges, locker tops, vents, and light fixtures.

-Cleans all glass partitions, mirrors and display cases.

-Cleans water fountains, wood surfaces, and tile floors.

-Cleans interior and exterior windows as needed.

-Cleans and disinfects  restrooms including urinals, basins, commodes, partitions, stainless steel and chrome fixtures; mop floors; Restocks paper towels, toilet paper and soap dispensers. Stock and inventory cleaning and restroom supplies.

-Grounds maintenance when needed:  remove snow from sidewalks and apply ice melt as needed; clean parking lot and grounds.

-Basic maintenance including but not limited to:
Replace light bulbs and ballast.
Replace filters and batteries as needed.
Perform light plumbing repairs including unclogging toilets.
Paint as needed. 
Minor repairs of equipment, furniture, and shelves.

-Coordinates and schedules routine building maintenance with director and other custodial staff as well as requests for needed supplies and equipment.

-Responds to emergency situations, assesses the situation and secures additional assistance and resources.

-Provides extra cleaning as necessary for special events.

-Prepares meetings and conference rooms, arranging tables and chairs as requested. Clean-up and reset at end of meetings.

-Other duties as assigned.


§  Valid driver’s license required.

§  High school graduate or equivalent.

§  Custodial experience preferred.

§  Ability to use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; including but not limited to floor cleaners, pressure washers, leaf blowers and snow removal equipment, for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture and grounds.

§  Requires the ability to work any/all hour’s necessary, including weekends and outside normal working schedules to meet the needs of the Library.

§  Must be able to work independently. 

§  Ability to work well with other staff and outside vendors.

§  Must be able to lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.

§  Must be able to climb and work at heights of up to 20 ft.

§  Must be able to move up to 100 lbs. on a dolly.

§  Must give attention to detail, have aptitude for tidiness and proficient in cleaning skills and use of cleaning equipment. 

§  Ability to follow applicable safety rules and procedures.

§  Ability to apply common sense understanding, to deal with problems, and to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.

§  Ability to acquire job skills within one month of date of hire.

§  Ability to stand for long periods of time, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, grasp, push, pull, lift, stoop, walk, grasp, and to perform repetitive motion.

- 1 part time position available, working 21 hours per week, Monday-Wednesday 7am-2:30pm
- Minimum wage
